Chelsea loanee Jordan Houghton is hoping to add more goals for Gillingham during his stay in League 1

Jordan Houghton hopes his goal on Tuesday night will be the first of many.

The Chelsea loanee is keen to hit the back of the net on a regular basis for the Gills and got off the mark against Fleetwood at Priestfield.

Houghton’s goal put the Gills 2-1 up in a game they won 5-1.

He said: “Something I wanted to focus on when I came here was scoring goals. Hopefully, this is one of many from my stay here.

“I was disappointed with not finishing that chance at Colchester and it is something I have been working on in training, getting into the box and trying to score goals and it came off this time.

“I still think there is more to come from myself. I can get on the ball more, I can dictate more, hopefully score more goals and add assists to my game.

“I am only going to get better with confidence and playing more minutes.”

His goal helped reverse Gillingham’s fortunes in a game where they went a goal down after 12 minutes.

“We are delighted with the result but it wasn’t our best game, performance wise,” he admitted.

“It’s pleasing to score five goals. We would have liked to have seen the game out a bit better and controlled the game more in the second half but you can’t argue with a 5-1 victory.”
