Gillingham boss Ady Pennock hoping for the best after Conor Wilkinson injury

Gillingham’s high-scoring win came at a cost and they are hoping it’s not a big one.

Conor Wilkinson scored twice in the 12-0 win over Chatham but also turned his ankle and was unable to continue after the break.

The medical staff will hope to assess the injury when the swelling subsides.

The injury was the only downside to the evening workout for head coach Ady Pennock.

He said: “It was a goodwork out and we are just disappointed with Conor Wilkinson picking up an ankle injury.

“It was a freak accident, he bumped into their player and he turned his ankle. We were asking if he was okay during the half and he was fine but when he stopped it blew up.

“You do pick up little niggles in pre-season and hopefully it is just a niggle. He just rolled it so I am not too worried about it.”

Pennock was able to field Tom Eaves and Josh Parker in the match having rested both in recent days following knocks. Alex Lacey (knee) remains out.

Aaron Morris is another with a knee injury after picking up a problem in the same area that kept him out for the whole of last season. He has had a scan and those are being assessed.
