Scott Wagstaff will miss Gillingham's trip to Rochdale this weekend and a few games after that

Scott Wagstaff looks set to be sidelined for several weeks.

The Gills midfielder went off injured in the game against Charlton last weekend with a calf strain.

Coach Jamie Day said: “That’s a blow for Waggy because his work rate has been excellent.

“He is an experienced lad, which you need in times like this. It is disappointing we have lost him for that period of time but someone else now has a chance to step into the team and take that opportunity.”

Billy Bingham, who has missed the last three matches, could be a doubt again, suffering with concussion. He has been rated as ‘touch and go’.

If Bingham isn’t fit, then Max Ehmer could be called on again to play that role.

Day said: “We have always felt Max could play midfield, it was just maybe waiting for that opportunity to give him a chance.

“I thought he did well (last Saturday). He has played that position before, he is comfortable with the ball, has a good range of passing and he adds a bit of size to the team as well.

“If Billy isn’t fit then Max is more than capable, or we could play him and Billy in there as well. It is something we will look at.”

Mark Byrne had an eye injury fixed in the week and Gabriel Zakuani limped off with cramp. Both are set to feature at Rochdale.
