Gillingham lost 3-2 to VCD Athletic in the Kent Senior Cup second round

Gillingham were knocked out of the Kent Senior Cup in injury-time by Ryman League North VCD Athletic on Tuesday night.

The Gills named a strong side for their second round match and included first team players Rory Donnelly, Emmanuel Osadebe and Darren Oldaker in the starting XI.

But it proved to be a frustrating night at the Oakwood Sports Club, with the Gills losing the game 3-2.

Gillingham started well enough, with young winger Elliott List hitting the bar early on and both Emmanuel Osadebe and Greg Cundle testing the keeper from distance.

Donnelly had a chance cleared off the line but the scores remained goalless at the break.

Jamie Guy put VCD ahead after 55 minutes but Donnelly made it all-square with a headed effort.

A frantic last few minutes of the game saw VCD win it. Mekhi McLeod put them 2-1 ahead but a Ryan Huckle effort levelled the scores once again.

VCD weren’t finished, however, and they won it when Kris Newby fired home in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

The winners will now face either Herne Bay or Dover in the quarter-final.

Gillingham: Hadler, O’Mara, Huckle, Dickenson, Simpson, Stevenson, Osadebe, Oldaker, List (Mbo 77mins), Donnelly, Cundle. Subs: Newcombe, Divine, Chapman, Onwugbonu.
