Lordswood captain Chris Piesley delighted to see overseas star Chaitanya Bishnoi hit the ground running

Captain Chris Piesley hailed Lordswood's new overseas signing after a dream debut.

Indian all-rounder Chaitanya Bishnoi scored 117 and took 3-36 as Lords beat Tunbridge Wells by 57 runs in the Premier Division last week.

Bishnoi arrived in Medway from the IPL where he was a member of MS Dhoni's championship-winning Chennai Super Kings squad.

The 23-year-old is a family friend of Lordswood bowler Palash Joshi and his signing is a major coup.

Piesley said: "His debut couldn't have gone much better.

"I kept him under wraps as I didn't want anyone to build him up too much.

"I didn't want the magnifying glass on him straight away.

"We always knew we'd be getting him and we'd known for the last four weeks when it would happen.

"It can be tough getting overseas players in and I'd like to thank Andy Greenwood, Jackie Edmonds and Arvind Joshi for their help in making it happen.

"They put in a lot of hard work chasing up his visa but it will be worth it because we've got him till the end of the season."

Bishnoi's century came off 94 balls and included 13 fours and four sixes as Lordswood closed on 267-8.

His left-arm spin then caused problems as Wells were bowled out for 210.

Piesley said: "He got to 60 without playing a shot in anger, then he just switched and before you knew it, he was knocking good balls out the ground.

"His bowling is steady as well, and that's another thing, because he gives us a third spin option.

"Coming here at this time of year, when the weather's dry, a lot of the club wickets can spin."

Bishnoi is clearly a big talent but his move to Lordswood is about more than his class in the middle.

Piesley added: "He's there for us to learn off, not the other way round.

"A good overseas should always do more than score runs and take wickets.

"They should be there to learn off and hopefully we can all take something from him.

"He's just had eight weeks under the captaincy of MS Dhoni in the IPL, so I'm sure we can learn from him."

Lordswood host bottom side Bromley Common this Saturday.
