Maidstone's Josh Hare on having dad Darren as first-team coach

Josh Hare can take all the stick that comes with his dad being on the Maidstone coaching staff.

The Stones right-back cops it from team-mates but welcomed Darren Hare’s arrival as first-team coach at the Gallagher Stadium and believes he will be a big asset.

They previously worked together at Gillingham and Josh (pictured) feels he owes his career to his dad.

He said: “I respect my old man’s knowledge of the game.

“I listen to him. He’s taught me the game basically, from the ground up so I respect what he says.

“Some father-son relationships are a bit different where if your dad says something to you sometimes, some people might bite back and have a bit of an argument because it’s your dad but I’m different where that’s concerned.

“I’ll listen and I will take it on board so for me it doesn’t change anything.

“I think I’ve come into the club and shown what I can do before he got here, so it’s a case of doing the same thing.”

Darren consulted his son before accepting Maidstone’s offer to succeed Colin Reed as first-team coach.

Josh, who recently returned to action after a groin injury, was never going to stand in the way.

He said: “Dad asked me about it. He said ‘would you have a problem?’ and I said ‘no, not at all.’ If anything, he will bring a bit more knowledge to the backroom staff.

“No disrespect to Reidy but I think my old man’s got a great knowledge of the game. I think he’s a bit unlucky that he’s not gone on and done more in coaching and in management really."
