Boss Ady Pennock wants repeat of second-half show at Coventry when Gillingham take on AFC Wimbledon

Gillingham are hoping to carry on where they left off at Coventry when they host AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday.

Defeat at the Ricoh Arena overshadowed an impressive second-half showing, with the Gills having more than enough chances to reverse the two-goal deficit inflicted after a woeful first 45 minutes.

Boss Ady Pennock said: “We need to play like that every week, for 95 minutes, not just 45. It would be nice to do it every week but it hasn’t happened.

“It’s unbelievable. We just have to make sure we get it into them again and they play like they did second half.

“We can tell them and do stuff in training but they have to do it themselves. As soon as they go over that white line, we can’t do anything.

“We now move on and look forward to Tuesday. These games are getting bigger and bigger.”

Gills will be hoping to have Scott Wagstaff back available. He missed out at the weekend through an injury picked up after a heavy challenge against Chesterfield last Tuesday.

Pennock made two changes at half-time on Saturday, introducing attacking players Lee Martin and Josh Parker for Cody McDonald and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas.

Both helped the Gills improve and both could now be in line for their first start for the club.

“Both changes were tactical,” the Gills boss confirmed.

“I thought we were much better second half. All three subs (Bradley Garmston came on later) did well and I was pleased. They made an impact.”
