Joe Martin agrees deal with League 1 Millwall following his release by Gillingham

Gillingham’s League 1 rivals Millwall have confirmed they will be signing Joe Martin for next season.

The left-back was released by the Gills at the end of last seasonjoined the Gills midway through the 2010/11 season

after four and a half years at the club.

Martin, 26, will join the Lions on a one-year deal and starts training with them this week.

He originally

following his release from Blackpool.

The former Tottenham junior was a regular starter for the Gills throughout his time at the club but current boss Justin Edinburgh felt he wanted different options for the new season.

Martin left the Gills after making 162 league appearances, scoring eight goals in the process.

He is the second former Gills player to move to Millwall this summer, after youngster Mahlon Romeo made the switch

The Lions, who were relegated from the Championship to League 1 last season, will also have John Marquis in their ranks for the coming campaign.

The Gills were keen to sign Marquis following a successful loan spell but the Lions activated an option on his deal to keep him at the Den.

Former Gills defender Andy Frampton has also joined the club this summer as a coach.

Martin, Romeo and Marquis could all be facing the Gills on December 19 in London. The return fixture at Priestfield is on the final day of the season.
