Gillingham are playing a waiting game for Max Ehmer’s signature.

Boss Justin Edinburgh believes the club are well primed to sign the 23-year-old but the deal rests on him being released by Queens Park Rangers.

Ehmer has another year left on his current contract at Loftus Road.

Edinburgh is hopeful that a deal can be struck between the player, who enjoyed a loan spell with the Gills last season, and QPR over his release.

The Gills boss said: “We are in a good position because Max came to the football club, he worked here and I know he enjoyed it.

“I have spoken to him on a regular basis and know his desire is to come back, that’s a plus for us.”

Ehmer has been holidaying in Dubai and only just returned to the UK at the end of this week.
Edinburgh said: “The sticky part of it is that he is still contracted to QPR.

“As much as we would like to go and take over that and rush it on, it is out of our control at the moment. What we have in place is someone who wants to be here and once that becomes an opportunity, hopefully we will be able to move quickly to secure Max’s signature.”

The German defender played 29 games for the Gills last season after joining at the end of November.
