Gillingham striker Cody McDonald could miss League 1 match at home to Walsall with eye injury

Gillingham striker Cody McDonald is an injury doubt for Tuesday's clash against Walsall.

McDonald took a blow to the face at Bristol Rovers on Saturday, with swelling to one eye leaving him unable to see properly.

The Gills will be hoping that goes ahead of the visit of the Saddlers.

Boss Justin Edinburgh said: “He took a whack to the eye and it closed up so he couldn’t see. We will have to assess it so see how quickly the swelling goes down but it was completely shut (on Saturday).

“He didn’t have any concussion, it was just a case that it completely swelled and the fluid dropped over the eyelid and he couldn’t open it.”

Front-man Jay Emmanuel-Thomas is another injury doubt. He has missed the last two league games with a knee injury.

The Gills will, however, have fellow striker Rory Donnelly back available again. Donnelly has missed the last two games through suspension.

Gillingham met Walsall last October in the league with both teams battling at the top. Neither team has found that form so far this campaign, with the Gills in 18th and Walsall just four places higher and one point better off.
