Medway and Maidstone AC juniors triumph in final UK Youth Development League match of the season at Dartford

Medway and Maidstone's juniors battled through testing conditions to win their final UK Youth Development League match of the season at Dartford, writes Alan Newman.

The team of under-20 and under-17 men and women jointly scored 403 points to head Horsham Blue Star (384), Dartford Harriers (259), Walton (248), Bexley (233), Holland Sports (182) and a composite Paddock Wood/Invicta team (45).

The under-20 men were the most successful group, with full points for Darryl Wright (11.8sec) and Lewis Heffernan (11.9, PB) at 100m and Mike Watson (22.7) and Wright (23.3) in the 200m. Cameron Payas (2min07.4sec) and Jacob Coward (2.22.0) doubled in the 800m.

Heffernan was easily the club's top scorer with wins at 110m hurdles (17.1, PB), 400m hurdles (60.0) and triple jump (12.26m). Wright added maximum points from the javelin (28.40) and played his part in relay wins at 4x100m (46.1) and 4x400m (3.49.0).

At under-17 level, the winners were Matt Hawkes (55.8) at 400m, Jacques Cunningham-Marsh at 1,500m (4.25.3) and 3,000m (9.36.0, PB) and Joseph Thurgood in the 100m hurdles (14.3), high jump (1.75) and discus (29.69, PB).

The women under-20 team saw successes for Sian Keegan at 400m (60.9) and Harriet Day in the 100m hurdles (16.1) and 400m hurdles (67.1). Megan Walsh and Jazmin Salter joined in for a win at 4x100m (51.2).

Walsh had earlier won the under-17 100m (12.7) and there were wins in this category for Imogen Munday at 300m hurdles (49.4), Amber Durrant in the high jump (1.60) and Grace Adeleye at triple jump (8.40, PB).
