Glenn Morris agrees a player-coach role at Crawley Town following his release by Gillingham

Glenn Morris has signed for League 2 Crawley Town.

The goalkeeper was released by the Gills at the end of the season.

He was understudy to Stuart Nelson at Gillingham and was restricted to the bench for the whole campaign.

Morris, 32, joins Crawley on a one-year deal, with the option of a second.

He will also take on coaching duties at his new club.

Crawley head coach Dermot Drummy said: “It was important that we found ourselves someone who could play as well as coach. He is vastly knowledgeable of our level.”

Morris joined the Gills two years ago after spending the previous two seasons at Aldershot.

The former Leyton Orient and Southend keeper was no,2 to Nelson until the back end of the 2014/15 season, when he was given a run in the team under Justin Edinburgh.

Nelson’s form last pre-season led to Edinburgh reinstating him to no.1 and leaving Morris on the bench.

He leaves the Gills with 12 appearances to his name.
