Gillingham keeper Stuart Nelson has spoken of his delight at signing a new two-year deal with the club.

The Gills’ player-of-the-year will now remain at Priestfield until the summer of 2016.

“I’m delighted that I’ve signed,” said Nelson, who made 50 appearances last season, featuring in every Gills game. “Everything I’ve said is true, I’ve loved my time here.

“When I was offered the contract there wasn’t too much to think about and that’s why it has been done so quick.

“I’ve got ambition, I want to push on in my career and play higher but as I have said before, this is the club to do it at.

“This club has got the infrastructure to go higher and I want to be part of that when we move on.”

Nelson has now made 98 appearances for the Gills since signing from Notts County in the summer of 2012.
