Gillingham sign defender Bondz N'Gala, while midfielder Billy Knott joins Lincoln on loan

Gillingham have added to their options with the signing of former Eastleigh defender Bondz N'Gala while midfielder Billy Knott has left Priestfield for Lincoln.

N'Gala, 27, has joined the club until the end of the season and is new boss Ady Pennock's fifth signing, joining goalkeeper Tomas Holy, striker Josh Parker and AFC Bournemouth duo Harry Cornick and Joe Quigley at Priestfield.

He said: “I’m delighted to join the Gills, they’re an established League 1 side and I’m very excited for what’s ahead. I’ve played at this level before, so I know the quality of the strikers, but I’m ready for that challenge.”

The former West Ham Academy youngster has plenty of League 1 experience, having played for Yeovil Town and Stevenage.

The London-born defender moved to Barnet in July 2014 and formed a key part of their Conference Premier winning team in 2015 before switching to Eastleigh.

N’Gala joined the Irons’ Academy aged 13, and captained their reserves prior to turning professional.

He gained League 1 experience during a loan with MK Dons between November and December 2008, and made his professional debut for the Buckinghamshire club in their 3-0 win against Walsall.

N’Gala’s sole West Ham appearance – in an EFL Cup game against Bolton Wanderers – was followed by a loan spell with then Championship sides Scunthorpe United and Plymouth Argyle.

Gills midfielder Knott, however, has joined National League leaders Lincoln City, on a loan deal until May. The move means he misses out on the chance of playing against former club Bradford, who Gillingham travel to in League 1 on Saturday.
