Medway-based Rebel Runners fill top two places in women's race with Eloise Smith and Lisa Bacon on form at the Medway 10k

Rebel Runners Medway reached a significant road race milestone on Sunday when two of their club members filled leading positions at the Medway 10k, writes Alan Newman.

The club were only affiliated to British Athletics in October 2014 but Eloise Smith (43min46sec) and Lisa Bacon (W40, 44.44) took the top two spots in the women’s race.

Jennifer Howland (Istead & Ifield Harriers, 44.59), Bridie Fry (W35 Rebel Runners, 45.56), Kristina Hine (Arena 80, 46.27) and Claire Wilkins (Medway & Maidstone, 47.33) completed the top six.

The men’s winner was Mark Penny (Cambridge Harriers, 36.49) from M50 Graeme Saker (Tonbridge, 37.18) and Robert Demetriou (M40 Medway Tri, 38.03). The top six leader board was filled by Allen Jones (M45 M&M, 38.13), Lee Hardie (unattached, 38.35) and Huntley Roberts (Dartford Harriers, 38.50).

Prominent locals included Neill Wright (M&M, 39.28), M45 Mike Murdoch (Maidstone Harriers, 40.40), Alex Simpson (Cornerstone Fit, 41.01), Lee Elam (Rebel Runners, 41.47), M50 Adrian Moody (M&M, 42.23), Sean Cunniff (Medway Tri, 42.35) and Rob Hellyer (Rebel Runners, 42.44).

There were 373 finishers in this Medway Festival of Sport event that includes a 5k series and the Medway Mile on Friday, July 24.
