Gillingham forward Josh Parker returns from international duty with Antigua & Barbuda

Josh Parker faces a battle to win his place back in the Gillingham team following his international commitments.

While playing out in the Caribbean his forward role went to Bradley Garmston, who impressed, despite playing in an unfamiliar position.

Parker came off the bench on Sunday to help earn Antigua & Barbuda an impressive draw against Jamaica. That game came after last week’s 3-2 win over Bermuda, a game where the Gills forward captained the side and scored a goal.

He was due back in training this week, ready to be available for selection on Thursday against MK Dons.

Gills boss Steve Lovell said: “He will come into contention again if he is alright after his international break.”

But he added: “The boys on Saturday performed very well. The position that Josh would probably come and play on that left hand side was filled by Bradley Garmston and he was one of our better players.

“He put great balls in the box, took on people, had shots at goal and I thought he was very effective, causing a lot of problems and it was nice to see.

“It was a bit foreign for him playing a bit further forward but when you have the likes of Connor Ogilvie and Callum Reilly behind you, it allows you to go and do the natural thing which comes to Bradley. It is only natural to give him a go in that left sided position which he took on Saturday.

“He has to continue that now if he is to stay in the side. they all know they have to roll their sleeves up.
