Gillingham’s out-of-contract players have just 180 minutes left to earn themselves a new deal at Priestfield.

Manager Justin Edinburgh says there is “a lot at stake” for those individuals ahead of Saturday’s trip to Scunthorpe and next Sunday’s final game at home to Notts County.

Gills are safe from relegation and won’t make the League 1 play-offs but Edinburgh insists their season isn’t over.

He said: “The players owe it to themselves. They’re professional footballers and they’ve got a duty to the club and the fans.

“There’s a bit of self-motivation and a bit from myself but where (I have) the upper hand is that I’m new to the football club. The players are still getting to know me and there’s a lot at stake.

“There are some contracts to be earned, people trying to finish the season on a high to impress myself going forward for next season.

“I haven’t had personal conversations with people. I’ve tried to be as honest and as fair as I can in giving people game time, so I think those conversations come after the last two games.

“I’m a great believer that there’s two games to go and we want to get maximum points out of those, finish as high up the league as we possibly can with the best points we can."

Midfielder Danny Galbraith (hamstring) is back in training but he won’t play any part against Scunthorpe, who need one point from their last two games to avoid relegation.
