Gillingham boss Peter Taylor believes performances like Friday night’s will help bring the points in.

The Gills were unlucky to have left Coventry empty-handed during the televised League 1 clash.

Taylor said: “We were playing against a very good footballing team and in our situation we were never going to have the ball more than Coventry.

“At times, we had to be patient and solid at certain times in certain areas, but second half if we can create as many chances as that, against a good team, it means that we are not far away as well.

“If we do that more times than not then we are going to be fine.”

The Gills came close to levelling in the second half but couldn’t find the finishing touch.

“The players know that you have to take chances when you don’t get many,” said Taylor.

“We created some good ones. Yes, the finishing could have been better. It wasn’t but it was a 1-0 defeat and a very good performance.”

Gillingham now get their first midweek break since the start of the season. The game against Coventry was their ninth in five weeks.

“It is the first free week since the start of the season which I think is crazy,” added Taylor.

“Since we have been back, we have played Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday every time. I think it is a bit much. We are pleased to have a free week.”
