Guide to running the Medway Mile: how to stretch

Watch the athletes give their advice on stretching off.

With just a few weeks to go until the Medway Mile, it's time to start thinking about how to train to take part in the event.

Members of the Medway and Maidstone Athletics Club will be giving you a few tips on how to get fit in time for the fun run on Monday, July 27. The date marks three years until the start of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The runners, who will be taking part in the elite race for more experienced athletes, have put together a series of short training videos so even the most avid couch potatoes have no excuse not to get involved.

In the first video, the lads tell you what sort of stretches you should be doing to warm up and warm down before and after training or the race itself.

The Medway Mile will begin with a free sports session and children's crafts and workshops at Rochester Castle Gardens from 4pm.

There will be an elite Medway Mile race at 7pm ahead of the mass one-mile fun run/walk at 7.30pm.

The whole event is free and every participant receives a souvenir Medway Mile T-shirt.
