Car crash in Wainscott

A motorist is thought to have made off from the scene of a crash last night (Sunday).

The incident happened at the end of Wainscott Road at its junction with Hoo Road, Wainscott, at about 11.15pm.

Firefighters from Strood fire station were called  as it was thought the Vauxhall Astra had crashed into a house.

Instead crews discovered the car had crashed into a parked Peugeot. The driver was nowhere to be seen.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service, said: “We were called in by police who thought the car was smoking, but it turned out to be steam coming from the engine.

"We made sure the crash scene was safe before leaving."
