Overnight closures for M2 bridge work

M2 Bridge at MedwayThe Medway Bridge on the M2 will be undergoing regular maintenance inspections from this week.

The Highways Agency will be inspecting the bridge and the M2 between junctions two and three until May 26.

Overnight lane closures will be in place while the inspections are done.

Bala Vishnabala, structures project manager for the Highways Agency, said: "This inspection work is essential for the ongoing maintenance of the M2 Medway Bridge.

"If it is well maintained then unplanned delays affecting users' journeys will be kept at low levels.

"Most of the inspection work is being carried out overnight to keep delays for drivers to a minimum."

Work began on the coastbound carriageway on Monday and will continue until April 23.

Two of the three lanes of the coastbound M2 between junctions one and two will be shut and there will be a 50mph speed limit in place from now until Saturday, March 27.

The next stage of work will include closing the coastbound M2 junction two entry slip road.
