Car fire on Medway tunnel road

Medway Tunnel

A car was destroyed by fire last night on the approach road to the Medway tunnel.

Strood and Medway firefighters were called at 11pm after a Ford Focus caught alight just before the tunnel, on the Strood side of the River Medway.

The male driver of the Focus pulled over and escaped before firefighters extinguished the blaze in about 15 minutes.

A fire service spokesman said: "It was a matter of putting it out and moving it to a safe area. The car was completely engulfed."

The cause of the fire is unknown but it was not thought to be suspicious.

I'm just interested to know why comments are open following this article but not following a similar article "Van fire causes delays in Rochester". It doesn't seem to make sense.
