Arrest after attack in Chatham

A man arrested in connection with an attack on a woman in an alleyway in Chatham has been released on bail.

The woman, 30, suffered serious head injuries after an attack which happened on Saturday, January 28, between 10pm and 11.30pm.

She was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital with head and facial injuries, but is said to be making good progress.

The attack happened in the alley between Constitution Road and Chatham Hill and there is also a third access to the alleyway from Grange Hill.

The assault is being investigated by detectives from Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, who have been carrying out house-to-house inquiries.

Officers arrested a 43-year-old man from the Gillingham area yesterday afternoon. He has since been released on bail until April 3.

A spokesman for the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate said: “The man was arrested at about 4pm and is currently being questioned by detectives."
