are being warned to watch out for black ice.
Kent Police has warned motorists to drive with
care on untreated roads this morning after temperatures fell below
freezing last night.
The Met Office has given Medway a “yellow” ice
warning after temperatures fell as low as -4 overnight leaving
behind fog and black ice.
Gritters were out in force yesterday to
re-salt the main and no problems have been reported on the
roads.
Train travellers are facing some delays this
morning as Southeastern trains reported minor delays to its Chatham
line and high speed services.
National Rail said it has been working through
the night to keep the railway network free of ice and help trains
run on time.
Arriva bus services, which struggled to
operate on time yesterday after the gates at its Gillingham depot
were frozen shut, has reported a normal service today.
Four schools in Medway are closed; Bradfields, Silverbank and
Balfour Junior in Chatham, and Featherby Infants in Gillingham,
while some schools are opening later than usual.
All leisure centres in Medway, except Deangate
Ridge Sports and Golf Complex, in Rochester, are open, and only two
schools have reported closures.
Medway’s rubbish and recycling collections are not expected
to be affected by the severe weather.
Readers have been sending in their photos of Medway covered in
the white stuff.
Sarah Spragg sent in this picture of her neighbours clearing
snow in Brambledown, Chatham.
She said: "Someone asked where the community spirit has gone,
well here in Brambledown in Chatham I counted a dozen
neighbours clearing the road and that was just looking down the
hill."
Residents are asked to check www.medway.gov.uk/winter for
regular updates on school and service closures.
