Rochester school cancels trip because of snow
Dozens of children had a
school trip to London cancelled today (Monday) after a dusting of
snow.
Delce Infant School, in Rochester,
called off its trip to the Natural History Museum after snow
started to fall early this morning.
But angry parent Claire
Barnes slammed the school’s decision saying the children were
looking forward to the excursion.
She said: “Some parents
got a text from the school at 8.25am just cancelling it saying it
had been called off because of the dangerous weather conditions,
but the roads were all clear.
"There were 90
six-year-olds looking forward to going on this trip and it got
cancelled even though there wasn’t anything wrong with the
roads.”
Donna Atkinson, head
teacher at the school on Fleet Road, defended the decision saying
the safety of the children was paramount.
She said: “The school
postponed the trip to the Natural History Museum based on a
conversation with one of the owners at Redroute Buses.
“Whilst the school
regrets the short notice of the postponement, the safety of the
children at Delce Infant School is paramount and a joint decision
with Redroute Buses was taken because of the condition of the roads
at the time.
“Only two parents out of
89 have complained. A number of the parents have thanked the school
for putting the children’s safety first.
“The trip was fully
funded by the school and will be rearranged for term four.”
