Rochester man arrested after vehicle thefts in Medway and Aylesford
A Medway man
was one of four arrested by detectives investigating the thefts of
vans and tipper trucks in the county.
Police arrested the men after a number of vehicles were stolen
across Medway and in the Aylesford area in December and
January.
The vehicles were stolen between December 19 and January
10, and on that evening, following an automatic number plate
recognition (ANPR) camera activation, two vehicles were stopped on
the M25 near Orpington.
The men inside, a 27-year-old from Middlesex, a 34-year-old from
Rochester, a 25-year-old from Croydon and a 66-year-old from
Southwark, were all arrested on suspicion of theft of motor
vehicle.
They were questioned by officers and later released on bail
pending further inquiries, until March 5.
DC Raj Dusanjh, investigating officer said: “Many of the
vans that have been targeted have had valuables such as tools or
building supplies in them.
"With the four arrests we have made our investigation is making
good progress, but I would encourage people to remove all valuables
from their vehicles before leaving them unattended.
“Where possible, owners should leave their vehicles in a garage,
or a secure car park or well lit area to deter thieves.”
