Poignant snowman in Gillingham

The snowman in Woodlands Cemetary

Of all the snowmen and other chilly creatures created during the big chill, this one has to be the most poignant.

Reader Lynda Gallagher spotted this snowman perched on a bench opposite a baby’s grave in Woodlands Cemetery, Gillingham.

She said: “We were walking up the path and I spotted the snowman sitting in the children’s section. It was directly in front of a six-month-old boy’s grave.

“Someone had definitely made it for him, it was such a surprise to see it just sitting there.”

Lynda thought she would take a picture and share the touching moment on Twitter.

She added: “I’m taking part in the 365 Project and take photos where ever I go and share them online. I wanted to share this one as it was an absolutely wonderful thing to see.”

The 365 Project sees people take one photograph every day for a year to post online to share with the world.

Lynda was careful to point out online she was not trying to intrude on anyone’s grief but just wanted to share the wonderful effort someone had gone to in making the snowman.

She added: “I got some positive feedback from people on Twitter, nothing negative at all.

“Some people said it made them cry but said it was wonderful.”
