Teenagers deny murdering father David Young in Gillingham

by Keith Hunt
Two teenagers have denied murdering father-of-two David Young,
who died from stab wounds after a brawl in Gillingham on New Year's
Day.
Stuart Porter, 18, and a 17-year-old youth, who cannot be
identified for legal reasons, also pleaded not guilty to wounding
John Smith with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
They will stand trial at Maidstone Crown Court on June 24. It is
expected to last three to four weeks.
Mr Young, of Beatty Avenue, Gillingham, was stabbed in the thigh
during a clash between two groups in Windmill Road in the early
hours of January 1.
The 28-year-old builder died in Medway Maritime Hospital four
days later on January 5.
The former Robert Napier School pupil had been walking home with
friends after a night out at the Casino Rooms, in Rochester, when
the trouble started.
Porter, of Buttermere Close, Gillingham, appeared by TV link
from Lewes prison because he was too unwell to travel to court. His
co-accused, from Strood, was in the dock.
They were both remanded in custody. Friends have set up a fund
to help Mr Young's partner Kirsty Bryant and their two daughters
financially.
