Fire on sea wall near Cliffe Marshes
Fire crews were called to an incident
Firefighters spent two hours tackling a rubbish fire on the sea wall near Cliffe Marshes overnight.
Crews from Strood, Medway and an all terrain vehicle from Dartford were called out to Mead Wall after the Port of London Authority spotted the fire on CCTV cameras.
Crews were called out to the Pond Hill Road area at about 11pm where they found 30 metre wide area of rubbish alight.
A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service, said: “The fire was well alight when we arrived, it was drift wood and junk, including gas cylinders which had probably been washed up from the river.
“Two pumps and a water carrier spent two hours at the scene putting out the flames.
“We used the all terrain vehicle from Dartford to help us get access to the flames to fight it and left the scene at about 1am."
Crews said it was not known how the fire started.
