Bad weather leads to sinkholes at the Anchorians club in Gillingham and Rainham Mark Grammar School
Rainham Mark Grammar School
A sinkhole has appeared on a school playing field in Rainham following this week's torrential weather.
The chasm opened up next to the path leading up to the sports hall at Rainham Mark Grammar School.
The area has been cordoned off and students have been warned to stay away.
Simon Decker, head teacher of the academy in Pump Lane, has contacted Medway Council, the British Geographical Society and civil engineers.
The school is on half-term next week.
A sinkhole has also emerged at a rugby pitch used by the Anchorians club in Gillingham.
The hole, which is more than 3ft wide and 2ft deep, appeared at the ground in Darland Avenue.
The lower part of Pump Lane in Rainham has been closed because of a fallen tree. It is thought to have damaged a power cable which is being repaired. The road is expected to reopen by Saturday.
