Chatham defender John Wilfort faces lengthy ban after double dismissal

Alex O'Brien's  frustration at Chatham’s inconsistent form in Ryman League Division 1 South has probably increased  after another away defeat at Burgess Hill on Tuesday.

Having voiced his concerns about their "win one, lose one" habit, they travelled home from West Sussex pointless after losing 2-1, despite being gifted a second-minute own goal by home defender Justin Gregory.

To make matters worse for  O’Brien, pictured, Chatham finished with 10 men after John Wilfort was sent-off for the second time in three games.

The defender, dismissed at Leatherhead last month, had already been booked before being shown a straight red card following an off the ball incident involving home skipper Leo Day. It sparked a mass brawl, with Hill’s Lloyd Cotton also sent-off and Chatham keeper Dean Ruddy booked.

O’Brien added: "I’m a bit annoyed and disappointed because I think John overstepped the mark.

"Football is a passionate game but these days you can’t raise your hands, scream and shout or stamp your feet."

Wilfort starts a three-match ban against Dulwich tomorrow (Saturday)  and is facing a lengthy lay off, which O’Brien believes could be seven-matches.

O’Brien also revealed one player will be leaving following the latest budget cut, but won’t name him until all the details have been sorted out.

Defender Richard Avery (back) is doubtful to face Dulwich.
