Size doesn’t matter, insists new Gillingham loan signing Danny Hollands.
The midfielder joined the Gills at the end of August on a three-month loan from Charlton.
Hollands is now part of a relatively small squad but said: “A few years ago I was with Bournemouth and we were one of the smallest clubs in the league and we made the play-offs.
“It just shows it doesn’t matter how big the club is or how big the squad is, all that matters is working hard and getting the results.
“There are some great players here and there were some good performances before I came in.
“There are always a couple of big teams in League 1 but it doesn’t matter how big they are, there are 11 players on the pitch on a Saturday.
Hollands dropped down a division to get regular football. He was a regular starter for Charlton when they won League 1 in 2011/12 but since their promotion to the Championship, he has found games harder to find.
Last season he was loaned out to Swindon, where he helped them chase promotion in League 1.
He said: “I’m happy to be at a club like Gillingham and help them move up the table. It was a no brainer for me because I want to play.”
