250 walkers took part in the annual event, now in its 19th year, raising funds for 14 causes. The most successful charity supporter was Debra Bromley who raised over £222 for Macmillan Cancer Support, and as biggest individual fundraiser won a prize of a P&O Ferries voucher.

The location of the walk is moved around the county and this year involved a five and 10 mile route circling the national fruit collection at Brogdale, Faversham. Event organisers are looking at route options for north or mid Kent for the 20th anniversary year in 2015.

This year, for the first time, walkers had the chance to take part with half the sponsorship raised going to the cause of their choice and the balance supporting children's road safety initiatives in the county.

A wide variety of causes were selected including Porchlight, Wisdom Hospice, Pilgrims Hospice, British Lung Foundation, Demelza, South East Dog Rescue, Macmillan Cancer Support, Heart of Kent Hospice, Alzheimer's Society, Stroke Association, Ronald McDonald House Charity, and a number of school PTA groups. In total £4,500 was raised for charity.

Event organiser Nancy Clark thanked Brogdale Collections, Shepherd Neame, Warburtons, Lansdell soft drinks, the Shipwright’s Arms at Hollowshore, Judd's Folly hotel and the volunteer stewards from Barton Court Grammar School.

Nancy said: "It was great to see so many walkers taking part for their favourite charities, raising money for both national and local causes as well as our own. It was fantastic that so many local businesses partnered with us making it a real community event, this is what the KM Charity Walk is all about."
