Seventeen Ashford schools in running to earn AMF Bowling vouchers

Seventeen Ashford primary schools are in the running to win bowling vouchers if they come top in a special walk to school challenge.

The KM Charity Team is working with the primary schools to encourage families to switch from the school run to green travel.

This week AMF Bowling in Ashford joined the campaign by agreeing to provide free vouchers for pupils in four top performing classes.

The classes that come top or are most improved with their figures for walking, cycling, using scooters or park and stride on Wednesday, June 24 will receive the bowling vouchers.

Simon Dolby from the KM Charity Team said: “Currently 17 Ashford schools use our green travel schemes and so are in the running to win.”

Charly Ward, Centre Manager at AMF Bowling, Ashford, said: We are setting the schools of Ashford a walk to school challenge. We want all the school using Walk on Wednesday, Active Bug and Green Footsteps on Wednesday, June 24. The four classes that are top or most improved for green travel will receive AMF Bowling vouchers.”

“We are delighted to support the walk to school campaign and improve the health, wellbeing and road safety skills of local children.”

Schools involved are: Aldington Primary School, Beaver Green Community Primary School, Charing C of E Primary School, East Stour Primary School, Furley Park Primary School, Great Chart Primary School, John Mayne CEP School, John Wallis Academy, Kingsnorth Primary School, Mersham Primary School, Pluckley CE Primary School, Smarden Primary School, St Simon’s RC Primary School, St Teresa’s Catholic Primary School, The John Wesley Primary School, Victoria Road Primary School, Willesborough Junior School.

KM Walk to School is a Kent County Council-led initiative supported by organisations including Ashford Borough Council, Orbit South, Southern Water, Countrystyle recycling, Eurostar, Specsavers, Leeds Castle, Three R’s Teacher Recruitment and Mini Babybel.

This term schools can sign up for next academic year’s walk to school campaign. Class packs are available to schools at a reduced rate if they order before July 1. To download the registration form for Wow or Active Bug visit www.kmwalktoschool.co.uk or call 0844 264 0291.
