Berry good reason to enjoy Charity Walk

Tired trekkers can tuck into a tasty treat when they complete the KM Charity Walk this Sunday – juicy fruit sold by a Kentish grower to help a children’s cancer charity.

Plum purveyors and strawberry specialists Berry Gardens are supporting the walk and will be selling fresh fruit at the finish line with all proceeds going to Kent charity My Shining Star.

The charity provides financial help to the families of children who have been diagnosed with cancer, to help cover the costs associated with their treatment.

Staff at Berry Gardens have chosen it as their charity of the year and chief executive Jacqui Green is encouraging all of her team to join the walk – and bring their friends and families.

The company has its head office in Five Oak Green, just outside Paddock Wood, and works with berry, cherry and plum growers across the UK to distribute their produce.

“It’s such a great and simple idea – a beautiful walk in the beautiful Kent countryside, giving people the opportunity to come together and support great causes,” Jacqui said.

The KM Charity Walk takes place this Sunday, June 24, starting and ending at Grade II listed Georgian mansion Mote House in Maidstone’s Mote Park.

Walkers can choose between a five-mile and a ten-mile route to complete just for fun or to raise sponsor money for any charity of their choice. Anyone who raises £200 or more individually will go into a prize draw to win two Eurostar tickets.

Dogs on leads are welcome, and children – who go free when booking online in advance – will enjoy a kids’ nature trail and craft activities organised by Kent Wildlife Trust.

The walk ends at Mote House with a summer fayre including barbecue, cakes from Homemade With Love Cakes, drinks from Priscilla the Pimms Pod, ice cream from Simply Ice Cream and live music from Acoustic Tones. Simply Ice Cream will be donating all profits to Porchlight and the Pilgrims Hospice.

The KM Charity Walk is also supported by Jarmans Solicitors, Glosrose Engineering, Maidstone Ramblers and the Woodstove Trading Company.
