Organisers of the Kentish Express and kmfm charity zip wire challenge are hoping to get video footage of brave participants this year.

The annual event for daredevils in south Kent takes place at Folkestone Racecourse on Sunday March 22 and will see scores of people zip from the TV gantry on the roof of the main stand and hurtle 150 yards to the ground with just one cable holding them off the ground.

The thrilling experience will raise funds for Pilgrims Hospices in East Kent which will receive 70 per cent of the proceeds. Thirty per cent of sponsorship money will be presented to the children’s road safety charity Kent Walking Bus.

The Kentish Express charity team is now on the look-out for a volunteer to video the event and for professional help to edit the footage. This will be posted on the KM Charity Challenge YouTube site enabling participants and their friends to see their endeavors as well as promote future challenges.

Participants can opt out of the video footage as this is a free optional extra.

To join in the fun participants must pledge to raise a minimum of £75 for the charity event and can apply for their event pack by cutting out the form on this page or going to www.kmcharitychallenge.co.uk

This will be the third consecutive year that the Racecourse has offered its venue free of charge for this event and event promoters – KM Charity Challenge – are aiming to better the figure raised last year of £13,000.

Bouverie Place shopping centre and Wilmoths Citroen both jumped at the chance to support the charity zip wire challenge.

The centre supported the charity event last year and even encouraged a team of security staff to join in.

Centre manager Paul Stone said: "Bouverie Place understands the importance of supporting community events and prides itself on helping local charities by sponsoring revenue raising initiatives. Last year members of our security team took part in the event and were so thrilled by it that they are planning to persuade more Bouverie Place team members to take part this year."

Last year Wilmoths Citroen sponsored the event and even provided one of its top of the range 4x4 Citroen C-Crosser vehicles to act as one of the anchor points for the zip wire cable.

New General Sales Manager Jeremy White said: "I have been at Wilmoths Folkestone since November and I am keen to continue the good work set by my predecessor of supporting local activities and charity events. Indeed, Wilmoths encourages all its branches to get involved in the local community in this way."

Event promoters aim to cover the costs of putting on the event through company sponsorship. Businesses can earn publicity through the pages of the Kentish Express and Extra by agreeing to sponsors for the event. For information contact Simon Dolby on 07989 164 752.
