Delighted organisers of the record-breaking wine and wisdom evening say a further £1,000 has been sent through to the charity department’s offices in Whitstable following the event in March.

KM Big Quiz question master Simon Dolby said: “The event broke records for the numbers attending and amount raised for good causes, and it looks like this has prompted an organisation to send us donations to further swell the pot.”

Mr Dolby said the Canterbury donor had asked to remain anonymous but that they were a passionate supporter of the KM charity’s children’s road safety work.

“This exceptionally generous donation makes a record-breaking year even better,” Mr Dolby said.

The enlarged charity pot will be divided between the League of Friends at Canterbury Hospital, the children’s road safety work of the KM Charity Team and the Canterbury Food Bank.

A hefty £5,000 of the amount raised came from Barclays bank thanks to the hard work of volunteers from the Canterbury branch who manned the Shepherd Neame charity bar and helped run the raffle.

The annual charity event, now in its 14th year, attracted 63 teams and was won by Canterbury team Moomins. Fifty eight of the participating teams scored more than 50 per cent of correct answers impressing event organisers.

Faversham-based Sheps donated all the beverages for the night stocking the entire charity bar. Staff from Blean’s Londis store, who donated a goodie bag for every guest attending the event, and volunteers from the League of Friends were presented with certificates to thank them for their efforts.
