Hornby haul for KM Big Quizzers

Big kids at the Big Quiz will be in for a treat thanks to Hornby donating a cornucopia of prizes for event’s raffle - and there’s still time for quiz fans to book a team.

The classic toy manufacturer - maker of Thomas the Tank Engine sets, Scalextric and model trains and planes - has donated a cargo of prizes for the wine and wisdom style event, as it has done for the past six years.

And you don’t have to be a brainbox to win them – they’ll be among the raffle prizes at the quiz on Friday, April 20 at the University of Kent Sports Centre.

There will be ample rewards for quizzing acuity too: members of the overall winning team will each receive DFDS Seaways vouchers worth £150, and two Eurostar tickets will be up for grabs in an on-the-spot mini-quiz.

KM Charity Team chief executive Simon Dolby said he was extremely grateful for the company’s generosity.

“Hornby’s support is one of the reasons the quiz has been so successful as an event and so effective at raising funds for charity,” he said.

“I don’t need to tell you how popular these toys are with people of all ages. For many of us they were a big part of our childhood – but it’s no secret that when we’re grown-up, we still relish the opportunity to go back to them."

The quiz will raise money for this paper's charity of the year the East Kent Hospitals Trust, as well as literacy services for schools.

A prize draw will see one of the charities entering at least one quiz team taking a share of the proceeds - which could be up to £1,000.

There will be prizes for the top team from the NHS and caring organisations, the top local government or schools team, and the top team from any organisation that enters three teams or more.

Brewer Shepherd Neame is supplying all the drinks for the charity bar which will be run by staff from Barclays. Volunteers from recruitment firm Office Angels will be helping on the night and ADM Computing are donating a special prize.

Barclays bank will match funds raised with an equal donation to boost the payout for charity.

The quiz starts at 7pm (doors open at 6.20pm). Teams can have up to eight people.

Booking price includes a bottle of wine and fizzy water for the table plus ploughman’s meals provided by the Kent and Canterbury Hospital League of Friends in return for a share of the proceeds.
