Members of the school council from St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School received limited edition Green Champion t-shirts at a presentation during school assembly.

They were rewarded for their commitment to encouraging pupils and families to use active means to get to school rather than travelling by car.

The pupil-led activities included presentations and leaflets to parents about Walk on Wednesday (WOW), walking bus and park and stride. The children gathered evidence including photographs, statistics and interviews with pupils from every class to get their views on green travel and raise awareness of the eco-friendly options on offer.

Member for community services Cllr Iris Johnston said: “The children should be very proud of their efforts. The council are delighted to be supporting this scheme as promoting green travel to younger generations and getting them engaged with this issue is so key.”

Green Champions is part of the award-winning KM Walk to School initiative led by Kent County Council and supported by Mini Babybel, Specsavers, Three R’s Teacher Recruitment, Countrystyle Recycling and Orbit South.
