Last chance to go over the top for charity

Time is running out to put your name down for Kent’s only charity abseil this year – a chance to do something amazing and help a good cause.

There are less than three weeks to go before the KM Charity Team event on Sunday, April 8 – when dozens of daredevils will drop down the nine-storey Thomas Place sheltered housing block in Maidstone in aid of the charity of their choice.

And any individual who raises £200 or more will have their name put into a draw to win two Eurostar tickets.

For the team at accountants Wilkins Kennedy, it isn’t just a more thrilling way of spending a Sunday than washing the car – it’s a bonding exercise.

“We’re delighted to be supporting the abseil,” Maidstone managing partner Mike Startup said.

“It’s such a fantastic team-building event which our staff love taking part in. People can come along and raise money for their favourite good causes by stepping up and facing the challenge.”

Event organiser Dominic Comins added: “Yes, it’s scary to step over the top of a 100-foot-high building, but that’s why you do it – to push yourself and know that you can do things you’re afraid of.

“The team from Hatt Adventures will be taking care of you right the way through and they will guide you down in complete safety. So although you might feel scared, and that’s natural, there’s nothing to be scared of.”

The abseil takes place between 11am and 4pm – you can choose the time of your descent – at Thomas Place in James Whatman Way. You must be at least 14 to enter.

Abseilers can raise funds for one of the KM Charity Team’s partner charities, such as the Heart of Kent Hospice, the Kent MS Therapy Centre or Victim Support, or choose a charity of their own. You should aim to raise at least £75 in sponsorship.

The money you raise will be split 70/30 between the charity you’re supporting and the KM Charity Team’s literacy, road safety and walk to school projects.
