It was a case of third time lucky for Canterbury team The Moomins who claimed victory at the KM Big Charity Quiz county final on Sunday.

They held their nerve at a sudden death tie-break with The Unicorn, also from Canterbury, at the climax of the night to clinch the title. The Moomins had previously lost out to Medway’s Supernova in last year’s nail biting tie-break final and again in 2012 when Supernova beat The Moomins by just four points.

Eighteen teams competed for the Big Quiz champions’ trophy with competitors made up from the very best teams that took part in heats staged at Canterbury, Maidstone, Ashford and Medway during 2014.

The event, which was held at Chatham's Bridgewood Manor on Sunday, December 7, raised £1,300 for the children's road safety work of the KM Charity Team. Added to the four heats held this year the Big Quiz has boosted the coffers of Kent charities by £27,000 benefiting good causes such as Canterbury Food Bank, the Royal Voluntary Service, Kent MS Therapy Centre, Ashford Foodbank, Kent and Canterbury Hospital's League of Friends and SECAMB Community First Responders.

The KM Big Charity Quiz is supported by a number of organisations including Specsavers, P&O Ferries, Kent brewer Shepherd Neame and Barclays Bank.

Event quizmaster Simon Dolby said: “We’re now in the exciting planning stages of next year's Big Quiz heats so it’s the ideal time for businesses in Kent and Medway to get involved.

“Organisations can show their support by sponsoring an event, donating prizes, or even by bringing staff or volunteers to help out on the night. Help us to make the Big Quiz another huge success for charity in 2015.”

The Medway, Canterbury and Maidstone heats are now open for booking. To find out more or book a table, visit www.kmbigquiz.co.uk. Businesses interested in supporting an event should contact Mr Dolby on 07989 164 752 or sdolby@thekmgroup.co.uk.
