Construction company and cricket club sponsor WW Martin Ltd is supporting the green travel campaign and working with the KM Charity Team to stage a special challenge event to select the winning child.

The pupil selected to be a mascot will meet the Kent Spitfires squad at the match against Somerset due to be staged in Canterbury on 29 May, receive a signed bat, a signed Kent Cricket Royal London Shirt and join the captains on the pitch – and maybe even get to toss a coin to see who will bat first.

Currently 44,000 children at 135 primary schools in the county use Active Wow to travel to school each week and this term schools will be signing up to take part for next academic year.

Neil Peck, Director of WW Martin, said: “We are pleased and proud to be able to support the walk to school campaign and use our links to Kent Spitfires to help encourage more schools to become involved with this important initiative.”

Simon Dolby from the KM Charity Team said schools using the award-winning green travel scheme simply need encourage families to switch from the school-run to walking, cycling, using scooters or park and stride this month to be in with a chance at winning. The class that is top or most improved in the county will earn an entry voucher for every pupil and one of the winning class would be named as the cricket club mascot for a day enabling their family to visit the Spitfire ground at Canterbury as VIPs.

Joining WW Martin in supporting Active Wow are Specsavers, Orbit, Golding Homes, Countrystyle Recycling, 3Rs teacher recruitment, Whitefriars, Volker Highways, Eurostar, Kent County Council, Medway Council, London Borough of Bexley, Whites Transport and Leeds Castle.

Schools wanting to sign up for Active Wow can receive a discount when booking before 1 July on the website www.kmwalktoschool.co.uk
