Lorry plunges into ditch on A259 between Brookland on Romney Marsh and Rye

A lorry is being recovered after plunging into a ditch on a busy road on Romney Marsh this morning.

Recovery vehicles are on the scene after the incident at around 9am on the A259 Guldeford Lane close to the East Sussex border.

Police have warned motorists to expect delays between Rye and Brookland while the vehicle is brought out of the ditch.

The road has been closed in both directions all morning to allow for the specialist recovery vehicles to be brought in.

Sussex Police said the heavy laden lorry had gone off the road into the ditch and two specialist recovery vehicles were attending.

A Kent Police spokesman added no other vehicles were involved in the crash and the driver did not suffer any injuries.

Highways England estimate the road will be closed for the rest of the morning adding it expected the earliest it will reopen will be at around 3.15pm.
