A fire broke out inside a house last night after a faulty kitchen light sparked flames.

Crews were called to Church Road in New Romney after the resident found the electrics were tripping.

A faulty kitchen light had overheated and set fire to underfloor insulation, cable insulation and rafters on the first floor shortly after 9pm.

Two fire engines were sent to the property and firefighters in breathing apparatus used a thermal imaging camera to locate the fire.

They used small tools to expose the cabling and put a hose reel in to extinguish the blaze.

They were at the scene for just under an hour.
