Littlestone: Coastguard called after man and dog stuck in mud on beach

A man and his dog got stuck in the mud on a beach.

Coastguard rescue teams were called just after 5pm yesterday to Littlestone beach on Romney Marsh.

When they arrived the man had freed himself but the dog was still stuck.

The Coastguard said they were beginning to set up a "technical mud rescue" operation to get the dog out.

But as they did so, one of the team called out to the dog who managed to free itself and ran back to the crews on the beach to be reunited with its owner.

Dungeness Coastguard and Folkestone Coastguard led the rescue as they hailed it a "great ending" to the incident.

In emergencies dial 999 and ask for Coastguard. For non-emergencies contact 01304 210008.
