Crash at Hammonds Corner on A259 Lydd Road near New Romney involving two cars

A pensioner was treated by paramedics following a two-car crash at an accident hotspot.

The 81-year-old man did not need to go to hospital though after the incident at Hammonds Corner on the A259 near New Romney.

An ambulance was sent to the scene when the cars - a Citroen C3 and Vauxhall Corsa collided at 12.35pm.

Police were also sent to the scene and closed Lydd Road and the junction with Romney Road while the vehicles were recovered.

Only minor injuries were reported and the ambulance service said it only treated one casualty.

The junction has been the scene of several crashes prompting residents to call for more safety measures to be brought.

A 50mph scheme was brought in following a consultation in 2013.
