Romney Marsh: Road closed after serious crash on A2070

Paramedics have been treating three people following a crash on the A2070, including some serious injuries.

The road linking Ashford to Romney Marsh was closed for most of the day in both directions following the serious collision.

The road reopened just before 4pm, after the collision investigation and recovery was completed.

The incident happened just after 8.30am between the A259 and B2080 roads for Brenzett and the B2067 for Hamstreet.

Kent Fire and Rescue reported three vehicles were involved, but only one in a minor way.

A spokesman said: "Two fire engines attended and crews used hydraulic cutting equipment to free two people trapped inside two of the vehicles.

"Three casualties were handed into the care of SECAmb and the air ambulance."

Traffic was slow with drivers using alternative routes.

A tweet from Highways England said: "The #A2070 is closed in both directions between the #A259 and #A2042 due to a serious collision. Emergency Services are working at the scene. Closure expected to remain in place for some time. #Snave #Hamstreet #Brenzett"

Highways England also advised drivers to consider alternative routes and allow extra time to travel.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police is currently attending a report of a collision involving two cars on the A2070 in Snave near Ashford.

"Officers were called to the scene at 8.31am on Friday, July 6 along with the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) and Kent Fire and Rescue Service.

"The road is currently closed while recovery work is ongoing."

SECAmb has been contacted for comment.
