Cycle challenge set off from Baypoint, Discovery Park, Sandwich, today to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer

A coastal charity cycle ride kicked off this morning at 9am from Baypoint in Sandwich.

The fitness and leisure centre based on Ramsgate Road, is hosting the event to raise funds for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Two challenges set off from the former Pfizer social club this morning, with some participants taking on a 35km ride from Sandwich to Kingsdown.

Sports and community development officer Sam Perkins said: “We expect a fabulous day of cycling, fundraising, hot meals and a great family vibe.”

Community organiser Kerry Rubins inspired director Tony Harrison to choose the charity because of her determination in raising awareness.

The 100km route follows Kent's historic coastline from Sandwich to Dover and back through the villages on the outskirts of Canterbury and the North Thanet coastline, via Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate before heading back to Baypoint via Cliffs End and Pegwell Bay. So keep a look out for a wash of pink cycle riders in your area.
