Chance to see beavers in natural setting at Ham Fen Nature Reserve near Sandwich

The chance to see a community of beavers in their natural setting at Ham Fen Nature Reserve, near Sandwich, is being offered by Kent Wildlife Trust.

The reserve is not normally open to the public but will host a series of guided walks with the wardens on the evenings of the first and third Friday of the month, starting on April 22, through to September.

Ham Fen is Kent’s last remaining fenland and a refuge for distinctive and rare wildlife.

The Trust’s Ham Fen Beaver Project, the first of its kind in the UK, aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of beavers in conservation management. Beavers have been resident since 2002.

Those attending will be shown evidence of beaver activity such as dams and lodges and, although they are nocturnal and shy, stand a reasonable chance of seeing them in the wild.

Walks are suitable for families but children must be no younger than seven.

The walk will be up to three hours long and finish around 10pm or before nightfall if earlier.

Start times will vary but will be confirmed when booking. Dogs are not permitted.

Paths may be wet and there are narrow bridges, which may be unsuitable for those with mobility difficulties.

Entry is £10 per adult and £5 per child, up to the age of 16.

Places are limited. To book call 01622 662012 or email info@kentwildlife.org.uk
