Emergency repairs needed for loose cobbles at Guildhall Forecourt

Loose cobbles on the Guildhall Forecourt means emergency repairs have to be carried out before Le Weekend.

A large area has been cordoned off to the public due to uneven cobblestones that could cause a trip hazard to pedestrians.

Town clerk Laura Fidler said: “Wet weather can cause delays, as the repairs won’t set properly if it gets wet while being re-laid.”

Ms Fidler said repairs would not impact on the French-themed events this weekend.

Previously, councillors Jeff Sneller and Joe Trussler said a long-term plan was needed as the cobbles had become dangerous.

They proposed a paved section in the central part of the forecourt, at a cost of £20,000.

When plans for the paving are complete there will be a public viewing before work starts.

Le Weekend will see stalls, music and fun on the forecourt and Market Street.
